How can creative action make minority voices visible in public life? Earlier this month, a seminar was held in Daruvar, home of the Czech minority in East Croatia, for young members of minoritized groups from across Europe. Two participants, Elizabeth Freeborn and Jowan Nute, travelled from Cornwall to attend. The theme of the event was “Visibility through Creativity” with the aim of exploring our shared need for self-expression and visibility as minoritised youths. The third YEN seminar will take next month in Hondarribia and we are looking for young participants from Kernow to attend.
Over the 3 days, participants will:
• Learn how public creative actions (like flash mobs, demonstrations and more) can raise awareness and inspire change.
• Reflect on legal, social, and organisational aspects of creative actions.
• Gain practical skills and tips to design safe, effective, and impactful creative activities in the public space.
• Share their cultures and build intercultural connections.
• Develop their own ideas for creative follow-up projects and prepare to bring them back to their organisations.
The programme combines ๐ป๐ผ๐ป-๐ณ๐ผ๐ฟ๐บ๐ฎ๐น ๐น๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ป๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐บ๐ฒ๐๐ต๐ผ๐ฑ๐ – from cultural evenings to brainstorming, practical exercises, and city walks – creating a dynamic, interactive environment. By the end of the training, participants will leave with new skills, stronger confidence, and concrete ideas on how to use creativity as a tool for visibility, representation, and advocacy in their communities.
