Burma: Clashes in Karen State displace over 4,000

Clashes between the Tatmadaw and the Democratic Karen Buddhist Army – Kyaw Htet (DKBA-KH) in Karen State have resulted in the displacement of about 4,000 people since early September, state media reported on 21 September.

Local authorities and relief organizations have been providing food and clothes for the displaced people most of whom have taken refuge in the monastery at Myaing Gyi Ngu.

At a meeting with those displaced, Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Win Myat Aye pledged that the ministry would provide them with vocational training and reiterated the government’s pledge for the rehabilitation of the IDPs, according to the report.
