Over 1,449 arrests were made around Jayapura alone today, May 2 , 2016, by Indonesian security forces upon demonstrators engaged in peaceful mass actions, mediated by ULMWP and KNPB members and their compatriots across Papua, according to credible figures from on ground observers.
The breakdown of the Thousands arrested at least:
27 Members of KNPB, from Sorong arrested.
115 Members of KNPB, around Numbay/Jayapura arrested.
178 Members of KNPB, arrested in front of Uncen Cenderawasih University.
400 Members of KNPB at Abe taxi terminal arrested.
200 Members of KNPB, arrested at Sipur army post.
100 KNPB Members, arrested at Expo Waena.
30 Members of KNPB arrested at traffic lights in Waena.
6 KNPB Members arrested in Sentani.
It is not clear at this stage if this total amount is individual people arrested, or perhaps some people who were arrested more than once. However, from witness reports and video footage, it is absolutely clear that many trucks were overloaded with prisoners, and many bystanders sought arrest also in selfless acts of festive solidarity. Until they reached the custody of the notorious Brimob police commandos that is.
Brimob commandos then forced hundreds to sit in the hot sun for hours and denied access to water and shade, in 90% humidity and 35 degree Sun. . Uncofmrimed reports have been received of many detainees succumbing to severe health problems and susstroke from theis deliberate torture. Press monitoring of the prisoners has been banned, with journalists threatened
Hundreds more still unreported arrests of demonstrators in Merauke,Wamena, Manokwari and elsewhere, remain to counted.
