Facundo Jones Huala, leader of the Mapuche Ancestral Resistance, was released on Friday afternoon after the Chilean judiciary accepted a protection from his lawyers. In the Trans-Andean country, he was sentenced to nine years in prison for participating in a property fire in 2013 and had been sentenced to another three years in prison for possession of a handgun.
The mother of the accused had said that she would be released this afternoon and said: "Then it will be processed so that she can cross to this side of the mountain range." For now, however, he will not be able to return to Argentina because he has to make another court appearance that is accepted by the courts of Chile.
After leaving the Temuco prison where he was detained, Huala expressed his gratitude to the supporters clubs and vindicated “the Mapuche revolutionary organizations, all the Mapuche revolutionary resistance communities and my organization Mapuche Ancestral Resistance and the movement Mapuche of the Puelmapu ”.
In a brief contact with the media in the neighboring country, he said that "state political violence must continue on the path of self-defense against supporters clubs and sabotage of large companies, but not unnecessary and disproportionate violence between us, the Mapuche people and the poor ”. "The enemy is one, the great transnational capital, imperialism and oligarchy, and the oppressive states in service of all these national and foreign bourgeoisies. They are the enemy, "he said.
