Lady Chainsaw, Chippewa (Ojibwe) Cree warrior, dies

On April 12th a warrior crossed over surrounded by her army of love. Kat Raven Roivas, (1972-2024), affectionately known as Lady Chainsaw, was a powerful, inspirational, determined, beautiful, and unapologetic Chippewa (Ojibwe) Cree warrior. Her wisdom, spirit, fearlessness, resolve and unabashed humour inspired many thousands of people who joined her to raise awareness and to stand up against colonial government injustices.

Lady Chainsaw was a major part of the Wet’suwet’en resistance. She is part of our story. She was dedicated to the yintah and Wedzin Kwa and the matriarchs who held the front lines. She took protecting all of these things as her own personal mission and would not allow anyone or anything to deter her. She was ever present in our lives and in our struggle and stood bravely throughout all of the police violence. She was our protector. She was a fierce warrior who never backed down. Fearless.
We were privileged to see her softer side too, like her love for our children and the way she made people laugh. She made promises of bringing down the crown as gifts to the younger generations and passed down a fierceness to those around her that will live on in our struggle for generations to come. Rest in power warrior, you did well. We will tell stories of you.
