Flemish National Day: Let's Unite to Achieve Independence

Vlaams Belang reaches out to N-VA: "Choose with us for an independent Flanders". The Feast Day of the Flemish Community celebrates the anniversary of 'the battle of the golden spurs' (1302), in which the count of Flanders, with the borough militia, were victorious over the king of France outside Courtrai.During its 11 July celebration in Bruges, Vlaams Belang called on N-VA to join forces for an independent Flanders in the elections in 2024. If Vlaams Belang and N-VA have a majority, then that should not be a lever to save Belgium, say chairman Tom Van Grieken and MP Barbara Pas. "But then it must serve to dismantle Belgium."

The Sunday before the Flemish Holiday on 11 July, Vlaams Belang traditionally holds a party meeting. In his speech, chairman Tom Van Grieken first lashed out at N-VA. He finds it ludicrous that N-VA once again comes up with confederalism as a "solution" for Flanders.

Under confederalism, Flanders and Wallonia would, on the one hand, operate as independent federated entities, each with many more powers, and, on the other hand, also cooperate in certain areas, such as defense or foreign policy. For N-VA this is the answer to the political challenges in our country, but Vlaams Belang calls confederalism a lie.
