Manipur (Kangleiplak) has more than 40 insurgent groups, but a large number of them have long been sidelined following the signing of separate agreements suspending operations with the central government. Four, however, continue the fight: PLA, UNLF, PREPAK and KYKL.


RPF / PLA

The People's Liberation Army (PLA) is the most active armed dissident organization. The PLA and its political wing, the People's Revolutionary Front (RPF), are led by Irengbam Bhorot or Chaoren as president and Manohar Mayum Pravin Sharma, alias Ngouba, as vice president. The military wing of the Revolutionary People's Front (RPF), which has been fighting since 1978, has about 2,000 members.

UNLF / MPA


The UNLF is the oldest pro-independence organization in Manipur, active since 1964. Its armed wing is the Manipur People's Army (MPA).
