The Akato Chophy-led NSCN/GPRN has joined the Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs). The announcement was made on December 15 at a press conference addressed by senior leaders of the organisation at Chophy’s residence in Hoito village, Niuland district.
“Today, we are declaring that we are part of and included in the NNPGs,” said Nokrang Lanu Aier, who is the Kilo Kilonser.
The development reportedly was the result of a recent agreement, albeit, verbally. Queried on the response of the NNPGs, MIP Kilonser, AV Chophi said that there have been parleys between the NNPGs and President Akato Chophy. “Right now we have not put it on paper. (But) We have come to an agreement recently. We are declaring it today,” he said.
What role would Akato play in the NNPGs setup was not specified.
The organisation further reiterated its declaration of unilateral ceasefire with the Government of India (GoI). Following the split from the NSCN (R), Chophi disclosed that the organisation formally communicated the declaration of ceasefire to the GoI, which he said was a continuation of the truce as maintained when they were in the NSCN (R). The two sides though have still to make a formal signing. “Nevertheless, it does not mean that we are not in touch with the GoI. We have been in talks with them since…Everything is going on a positive note,” he added.
On the solution or election conundrum, Kilo Kilonser, Aier maintained that solution should happen before election. According to him, the Nagas are struggling for a solution to the Indo-Naga political problem because of the involvement of vested interest.” Nagas, irrespective of political boundaries, are all fighting for the Naga cause, he said.
On the Frontier State demand, Chophi maintained that it is the prerogative of the GoI. “But one thing is clear; Nagas are Nagas wherever they are.”
