L'escola d'estiu de gaèlic manx més gran (i millor) fins ara. El manx va ressonar pels carrers de Peel la setmana passada quan 75 estudiants adults es van reunir per a Scoill Souree, l'escola d'estiu anual de llengua manx per a adults de Culture Vannin. Al voltant d'un terç dels estudiants havien viatjat a l'illa des d'Irlanda, Anglaterra, Escòcia, Gal·les, l'Europa continental i llocs tan llunyans com els Estats Units i el Japó, per aprendre la nostra llengua indígena i participar en la cultura manx. Ara en el seu quart any, Scoill Souree ha crescut significativament des que es va establir el 2023. Aquest any hi havia vuit cursos disponibles per a estudiants de totes les etapes, des de principiants absoluts fins a parlants avançats.
També es va introduir un curs de manx per a parlants d'irlandès impartit a través de l'irlandès, que està estretament relacionat amb el gaèlic manx. Ruth Keggin Gell, responsable de desenvolupament de la llengua manx a Culture Vannin, va dir: "Scoill Souree s'ha convertit en un autèntic punt culminant de l'any per a molts estudiants! Hi havia un ambient i una sensació d'ocasió fantàstics al QEII, i va ser encantador veure com es formaven moltes noves amistats. Celebrem Scoill Souree al mateix temps que el festival intercèltic Yn Chruinnaght a finals de juliol per donar als estudiants l'oportunitat de gaudir de les brillants ofertes culturals del festival.
The biggest (& best) Manx Gaelic Summer School yet!
Manx rang out through the streets of Peel last week as 75 adult learners came together for Scoill Souree, Culture Vannin's annual Manx language summer school for adults. Around one-third of the students had travelled to the Island from Ireland, England, Scotland, Wales, mainland Europe and as far away as the United States and Japan, to learn our indigenous language and engage in Manx culture. Now in its fourth year, Scoill Souree has grown significantly since it was established in 2023. This year there were eight courses available for learners at every stage, from absolute beginners to advanced speakers. There was also the introduction of a Manx course for Irish speakers taught through the medium of Irish, which is closely related to Manx Gaelic. Ruth Keggin Gell, Manx Language Development Officer at Culture Vannin, said: "Scoill Souree has become a real highlight of the year for many learners! There was a fantastic atmosphere and sense of occasion at QEII, and it was lovely to see lots of new friendships form. We hold Scoill Souree at the same time as Yn Chruinnaght Inter-Celtic festival at the end of July to give students the chance to enjoy brilliant cultural offerings from the festival. Here's to 2027!" One of the students beautifully summed up the vibrancy and enthusiasm of the week: "It's been truly amazing and I cannot wait to sign up again next year – thank you!"
