TAK action against the removing of Flemish flags in Eeklo

Last night TAK (Taal Aktie Komitee/Language Action Committee) campaigned in the East Flemish city of Eeklo. The militants did this in response to the incidents on July 11, 2020. "With this we want to kindly request the city council if the Flemish lion is not allowed to go to the pot with the rag."

On the Flemish holiday, the former mayor Koen Loete (CD&V) denounced that the ne had removed the Flemish flags : "My surprise was great," said Loete. “In the past, even all flagpoles hung in the fountain of Flemish Lions on 11 July. By the way, a city is obliged to flag the public buildings. I also see no Flemish flag anywhere at the library, at the city office or at the police station. That is a real shame at the Feast of the Flemish Community. I can understand that there is no celebration because of corona. But I strongly regret that our holiday is not appropriately framed with the beautiful heraldically correct flags.” Eeklo is now ruled bu a coalition of Christian-democrats CD&V, Socialists sp.a, Greens Groen and Liberals Open Vld.
