The South Tyrolean Schützenbund commemorated the hundred years of tearing up Tyrol

The Land of Tyrol has been divided for more than 100 years. On October 10, 1920, the southern part of the country was separated from the fatherland of Austria as a result of the peace dictate of St. Germain and officially annexed by Italy. This happened against the express will of the local population and also against international law and the ninth point of the 14-point catalog of measures of the then US President Woodrow Wilson.

On October 10, 2020, the South Tyrolean Schützenbund commemorated the hundred years of tearing up Tyrol. Exactly at 7:20 p.m., red beacons are lit at over 30 historical sites in the south of Tyrol. The historical sites represent our Tyrolean roots and the color red represents danger. It should warn us of the creeping assimilation and the loss of our Tyrolean identity. At the same time, fire scripts with the number 100 are lit in all seven districts.

“On the Timmelsjoch, the South Tyrolean Schützenbund has erected a crown of thorns in the presence of all three Tyrolean commanders. It is intended to be a reminder of the suffering that the South Tyroleans have experienced in the course of history: in the First World War, at the time of fascism and National Socialism, in the post-war period and in the 1960s ”, said state commander Jürgen Wirth Anderlan.

And for the future, the words of the venerable former governor of Tyrol, Eduard Wallnöfer, will continue to be our foundation for our actions.
