The network of Diwan schools mobilized this Saturday, May 21, in Nantes, on the occasion of the passage of the Redadeg, a race on foot for the defense of the Breton language. Participants paraded through the city center and will join the Redadeg runners at the Yellow Crane for a night party. It is at the foot of the castle of the Dukes of Brittany, in the water mirror of Nantes, that the members of Diwan gathered on Saturday in a rally where half a thousand people gathered in favor of the immersion teaching of the Breton language.
In the meantime on the night of May 18-19, a house in Caurel, in central Brittany, near Lake Guerlédan, was destroyed by fire. On the façade were several inscriptions in the name of the FLB, the Front de Liberation de la Bretagne, for the independence of Brittany and responsible for several dozen attacks, in particular against public buildings.
For a few months now, the signs of a resumption of political violence in Britain have been coming to light. In early January 2021, the weekly Le Poher received a letter of protest following the destruction of a construction machine in Rostrenen. In March 2022, it was the editorial staff of Ouest-France Quimper that had received the claim of a fortnight of attacks on second homes in Brittany. At the site of the last claimed action, in Ploumanac'h, in August 2022, journalists had already seen FLB labels. Various Breton autonomist or pro-independence movements are denouncing land pressure on the peninsula, especially on the coasts, which is forcing young Breton households to move inland to find affordable property. In Caurel, in the same village where the house was burnt down on May 18, another second residence had been painted with threats from the Front in January 2022.
