FLEC announces the death of 17 Angola's soldiers in clashes in Cabinda




The Cabinda State Liberation Front (FLEC), claimed the death of 17 soldiers from the Angola forces in several clashes the last days. On June 2nd the clashes killed four military personnel from the Angolan Armed Forces, six civilians and two combatants from the organization in .

“What happens in Cabinda are not incidents. It is a political-military conflict that took place before the country’s independence before November 1975. It is an expression of the aspirations of the people of Cabinda for self-determination ”, said Rául Danda, former vice president of UNITA, a native of Cabinda, the conflict “is legitimate, it has a reason to be”, but “the Government of Angola, led by MPLA, has been dealing with the issue in a more simplistic and hideous way”.

Other clashes took place on Macama-Nizia and Ndongo Buba, a border area between Cabinda and RDC. "The aim of the Angolan operation was to capture a senior FAC officer, unfortunately they fell into special units of the FLEC/FAC commands". The FLEC reconized "the death in combat of two FAC commands, namely an operational commander and his bocyguard, of 13 FAA soldiers, who also registered 11 wounded."

Created in 1963, the FLEC maintains "armed resistance" against Luanda rule and claims that "Cabinda is a territory illegally invaded by Angola and the local population is under terrible oppression by the ANgolan Government".
